Take Control of Your Dental Anxiety

With various levels of safe, comfortable sedation at Golden Coast Dental Care, you can finally take control of your fear and your oral health. You can follow through with the important dental care you need, knowing that your comfort is not an issue.

Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?

Aside from minimizing dental phobia or anxiety, sedation dentistry is also beneficial in other situations.

  • Complex dental procedures — If you need extensive dental work, sedation dentistry will help calm you so you can have an anxiety-free appointment.
  • Sensitive teeth — Patients with sensitive teeth can benefit from dental sedation that eliminates pain and minimizes discomfort during the procedure.
  • Patients with special needs — Those with special needs often have difficulty sitting still or understanding what's happening. Dental sedation can help these patients receive necessary dental care in a safe, comfortable, and stress-free manner.

3 Reasons to Choose Sedation Dentistry

For many patients, fear or anxiety can stand in the way of receiving essential dental care. Sedation dentistry offers a safe and effective solution to help you feel at ease during your visit. Let’s explore three reasons why sedation dentistry in Long Beach might be the right choice for you.

Alleviates Anxiety

Sedation dentistry helps patients who feel nervous or overwhelmed by dental visits. It creates a calm and relaxed state, making it easier to receive necessary care.

Increased Comfort

With sedation, patients report being much more comfortable during procedures, allowing for a stress-free experience even during complex treatments.

Better Results

Sedation allows dentists to work more efficiently and thoroughly, which often leads to better results. Patients are more likely to complete their recommended treatments with sedation.

Frequently Asked Questions

For many, visiting the dentist is an anxiety-inducing experience. Golden Coast Dental Care offers sedation dentistry options to help you feel relaxed and comfortable during your procedure.

Nitrous Oxide or Laughing Gas

A common type of sedation is nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. This method involves inhaling a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a breathing mask. Nitrous oxide gives you a sense of calm and well-being throughout your appointment, and the effects wear off quickly once we turn off the gas.

Oral Sedation

If you need deeper relaxation, we offer oral sedation. This involves taking a sedative pill before your appointment, which helps you feel drowsy and calm. You will be conscious during the procedure but may not remember much about it afterward. The effects of oral sedation can last several hours, so a friend or family member will need to drive you home.

IV Sedation

Intravenous (IV) sedation involves our trained specialist administering the sedative directly into your bloodstream through an IV. We commonly recommend IV sedation for more complex procedures or patients with severe dental anxiety.

IV sedation puts you in a semi-conscious state, so you may not remember anything about the procedure afterward. You will need someone to drive you home and should plan to rest for the remainder of the day.

Can Sedation Dentistry Benefit You?

Your comfort and well-being are our top priorities at Golden Coast Dental Care. Our trained specialist will determine the best sedation option to ensure your comfort and safety.

Yes, sedation dentistry is safe when administered by trained professionals like our Golden Coast Dental Care team. The safety of these methods has been established for decades, over a century in the case of nitrous oxide, in dental practices nationwide.

Dental Sedation Options

At our Long Beach practice, our professionals carefully evaluate each patient’s needs and recommend the most appropriate type of sedation for their anxiety levels:

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) provides mild relaxation that wears off quickly after treatment. This form of sedation allows you to drive yourself home afterward and return to your busy day without drowsiness. Nitrous is ideal for patients with mild anxiety or those undergoing shorter procedures.
  • Oral Sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before your appointment to induce deeper relaxation. You will remain conscious but feel drowsy and experience a sense of calm throughout your treatment. This option requires arranging transportation home afterward, as effects commonly linger for several hours.
  • IV Sedation delivers sedative medications directly into your bloodstream for the deepest relaxation. Our specially trained professionals continuously monitor vital signs throughout treatment, ensuring complete safety. IV sedation is an excellent option for those with severe dental anxiety or undergoing extensive treatment.

Safe Sedation Dentistry in Long Beach, CA

Before we recommend any sedation method, trained professionals review your medical history and current medications to ensure sedation is appropriate for you. A commitment to ongoing training and strict adherence to established protocols makes sedation dentistry at Golden Coast Dental Care a safe, effective solution for dental anxiety.

Dental anxiety is real, keeping many people from getting the care they need and deserve, but if you are fearful of going to the dentist, we can help! Our Long Beach dental office offers several types of sedation, so whether you have anxiety, special needs, or have to undergo a long dental procedure, we’ve got you covered.

Do You Offer Sedation Dentistry?

Yes! Here are the types of dental sedation you can choose from:

  • Nitrous oxide — Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a mask. It keeps you calm and wears off right away once the mask is removed.
  • Oral sedation — For a deeper form of relaxation, we can prescribe a pill for you to take before you arrive for your appointment. You’ll need someone to drive you to and from our dental office.
  • IV sedation — If you have severe dental anxiety, we can administer a sedative directly into your bloodstream through an IV. You’ll be monitored carefully during your procedure and go home to rest afterward.

Types of Sedation Dentistry in Long Beach, CA

We offer different levels of dental sedation to meet your unique needs. Dr. Brock Lorenz is trained and licensed to administer sedation dentistry safely and comfortably.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

girl undergoing sedation dentistry in long beach caNitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, has been safely used in dentistry for over a century and benefits patients with mild to moderate anxiety.

Before your procedure, we'll ensure you're settled comfortably, then place a small breathing mask over your nose. As you inhale, you'll feel the calming effects. During your appointment, you will experience sensations of comfort and well-being and have little awareness of the activity around you.

After your procedure, we turn off the nitrous so you can breathe pure oxygen for several minutes as the drowsy effects dissipate. Shortly after, you can safely drive yourself home from your appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Another common type of sedation involves taking a sedative prescribed by your dentist about an hour before your appointment. The benefit is that when you arrive at our office with the help of a driver, you will already feel calm, relaxed, and a little drowsy.

You will remain conscious during your procedure but with reduced awareness of what's happening around you. Some patients don't remember much of their appointment and may even drift off to sleep during treatment.

Oral conscious sedation is safe and effective if you experience moderate anxiety. For your safety, we require you to have a trusted friend or family member drive you safely to and from your appointment.

IV (Intravenous) Sedation

Dr. Lorenz is licensed to offer IV (intravenous) sedation at our comfortable Long Beach, CA, dental office. The effects of IV sedation are immediate because it is administered directly into your bloodstream.

IV sedation provides significantly deeper relaxation than oral or nitrous oxide sedation. You will be in a semi-conscious state, meaning you know where you are, but you will remember little, if anything, about the procedure.

You can benefit from IV sedation if your dental anxiety is severe or if you have a more complex procedure planned, such as wisdom tooth removal. Because the medication lingers in your system for several hours, you will need the help of a friend or family member to get to and from your appointment safely.

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for You?

If dental anxiety prevents you from maintaining a healthy smile, we recommend sedation dentistry at our Long Beach, CA, dental office to help you take control of your oral health.
